Description

Effective performance appraisals provide a systematic way to evaluate and document performance, recognize accomplishments, appraise employees’ potential for more responsibility, and identify developmental areas. Through examples and exercises, participants learn how to write precise, objective appraisals that meet the needs of employees, Human Resources, and other managers and supervisors. 


Course Outline

Participants learn how to:

  • Prepare evaluations efficiently and use appraisal forms properly and effectively.
  • Cite accomplishments, select supportive detail to prove ratings, and emphasize the relationship between individual accomplishments and group objectives.
  • Ensure credibility with precise, objective wording. Use powerful specific wording that cannot be misunderstood.
  • Motivate employees to improve with wording that helps ensure agreement and reinforces the benefit of desired behaviors. Avoid “haloes,” “horns,” and other pitfalls.
  • Write specific, measurable objectives and development plans.

Participants are invited to send samples of their on-the-job writing for confidential feedback.
